Welcome to homedujour!!
My name is Laura and I am passionate about interior design and styling. Looking back I must have always had this passion for interiors and making things look better. Although I’m sure at the age of 7 when I insisted on the theme ‘snatch the dog’ (remember him?) in my bedroom I didn’t know a thing about Interior design!
I have always loved nothing more than putting a scrap-book of beautiful interiors and stylish spaces together. I am at my happiest seeped in mood boards and home interior magazines with a coffee in hand of course!!.
My style is very traditional in some ways however I also love contemporary design especially Scandinavian and this shows in my own home. I believe you can design a stylish, functional space on a small budget and my ongoing home renovation is proof of this.
In 2016 I moved into a very loved but dated 1950’s built semi (No.28) From the very first time I clapped eyes on this once loved house I knew it had to be THE one. It needed to be loved once again by someone willing to take on a project. And boy do I love a project! I have been living in this house for just coming up to our one year ‘houseaversary’
and I am so proud of the work and effort that has been completed so far. Don’t get me wrong there is still a long way to go and so far it has been a case of salvaging the rooms that could be… well salvaged without major renovation. I have redesigned, decorated and styled all three bedrooms as well as the hall, stairs and landing on my own on a very tight budget .(saving money on tradesmen)
There’s a long way to go on the renovation with the bathroom, kitchen and living room all still on the ‘to do’ list. Not to mention the gardens! But this was always going to be a long project of love, sweat and tears over a two-year period and I haven’t done too badly so far!. It is slowly becoming a functional, stylish family home once again.
I started sharing photos on Instagram of my home a long time before my renovation journey in this house began and have been overwhelmed with the positive feedback and general love from everyone. It really is such a positive community and I have gained some really lovely friendships & support from there. (I post a lot!!) Pop over and see me @homedujour
This blog is a place I wanted to record all the little odd jobs, decorating and total renovations of the house. There’s nothing better than looking back on old photos and memories. So I would love you to join me on the journey at No.28.
