Welcome to homedujour!!
Hi I’m Laura and I am passionate about interior design and styling. Looking back I must have always had this passion for interiors and making things look better. Although I’m sure at the age of 7 when I insisted on the theme ‘snatch the dog’ (remember him?) in my bedroom I didn’t know a thing about Interior design!
I have always loved nothing more than putting a scrap-book of beautiful interiors and stylish spaces together. I’m at my happiest seeped in mood boards and home interior magazines with a coffee in hand of course!!.
My style is very traditional in some ways however I also love contemporary design especially and I find mixing the two really works and this shows in my own home. I believe you can design a stylish yet functional space on a small budget and my ongoing home renovation is proof of this.
In 2016 I moved into a very loved but dated 1950’s built semi (No.28) From the very first time I clapped eyes on this once loved house I knew it had to be THE one. It needed to be loved once again by someone willing to take on a project. And boy do I love a project! I have been living in this house for just coming up to the one year ‘houseaversary’ at the time of writing this
and I am so proud of the work and effort that has been completed so far. Don’t get me wrong there’s still a long way to go and so far it’s been a case of salvaging the rooms that could be… well salvaged without major renovation. I’ve redesigned, decorated and styled all three bedrooms as well as the hall, stairs and landing on my own on a very tight budget and designed my very small yet perfectly functional bathroom into a deliciously dark hideaway complete with the bath of my dreams!
There’s a long way to go on the renovation with the kitchen still on the to do list and my living room in working progress as I type! Not to mention the gardens! But this was always going to be a long project of love, sweat and tears over a four-year period and I haven’t done too badly so far!. It’s slowly becoming a functional, stylish family home once again.
I started sharing photos on Instagram of my home a long time before my renovation journey in this house began and have been overwhelmed with the positive feedback and general love from everyone. It’s such a positive community and I’ve gained some really lovely friendships & support from there. (I post a lot!!) This year I was shortlist for the Your Home Magazine Awards 2018 in the Most Inspiring Interiors Category, all through documenting my home on there. Pop over and see me @homedujour
This blog is a place I wanted to record all the little odd jobs, decorating and total renovations of the house. There’s nothing better than looking back on old photos and memories. So I would love you to join me on the journey at No.28.
